Prior to COVID, the Government had indicated there wouldn’t be the normal increments to the National Minimum Wage (NMR) in April 2021.  This was reversed in the autumn and new rates will come into force on 6th April 2021.

When the new rates come in, there are some significant changes that employers need to be aware of and some employees will look forward to.  The upper age band is being dropped from 25 to 23, so many workers will get a bigger increase than they may have been expecting.

The biggest winners are those aged 23 and 24 now along with 22 year olds with birthdays after 6th of April because they will step up to the new upper age band.
